Pain therapy
We offer these examinations at the following locations.
A CT-guided infiltration treatment is used, among other things, for certain localized or radiating pain symptoms.
Examination procedure
Depending on the location of your pain, a hollow needle is guided to the appropriate area of your body after local anesthesia. Using imaging (CT), we verify that the needle is on the correct path and that the tip reaches the target precisely. After the treatment, there may be temporary numbness and weakness in the area supplied by the treated nerve, similar to what can occur after a dental injection.
Possible complications
No doctor can guarantee absolute risk-free procedures. Even minor incidents can, in a chain of unfortunate circumstances, lead to health impairments. Serious complications, such as bleeding, infection, or injury to organs requiring further treatment, are extremely rare with this procedure.
Important change to access requirements
Applies to patients with statutory health insurance for CT-guided pain therapy
Dear Patient,
The Federal Joint Committee of Physicians, Hospitals, and Health Insurance Funds (G-BA) decided, effective April 1, 2013, that the costs of CT-guided pain therapy for statutory health insurance (GKV) patients will only be covered under strict conditions. For this, it is necessary that the referral for CT-guided pain therapy, facet therapy, or periradicular therapy be issued by a physician who has specific qualifications in pain management.

Therefore, the above-mentioned therapy can only be provided as a health insurance benefit from April 1, 2013, if a referral is submitted by a physician with the appropriate qualifications in pain management.
As a result of this new regulation, access to CT-guided pain therapy services for GKV patients will inevitably become more difficult, and waiting times for treatment are likely to increase. We deeply regret this change. Unfortunately, as physicians licensed by the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, we are required to comply with this decision. There are currently only a few physicians with the necessary pain management qualifications. A list of currently qualified physicians in the greater Dresden area is available at our practice. Alternatively, a CT-guided pain therapy can be performed based on a referral from other physicians who do not have specific pain management qualifications as an individual health service (IGeL). In this case, the costs must be borne by the patient, and detailed information can be provided on a separate information sheet upon request.
We appreciate your understanding.
